The Resurrection's Impact
Jesus is Lord
There is hope in death.
- The Holy Spirit is God, not a feeling (Acts 5:3-4; John 16:1-15).
- The Holy Spirit indwells every believer (Romans 8:9, 2 Peter 1:4).
- The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin (John 16:7-9)
- The Holy Spirit sanctifies us (Romans 8:12-14, Philippians 2:12-13).
- The focus of the Holy Spirit's ministry is Jesus, not Himself (John 15:26, 16:14).
- The Holy Spirit inspires the Bible (2 Peter 1:20-21).
- The Holy Spirit guides us in the truth (John 16:13).
- The Holy Spirit leads us (Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:18).
So how does the Holy Spirit lead or speak to us?
- Primarily through His word (John 16:13).
- Through other Spirit filled believers who speak the truth (Ephesians 5:18; Colossians 3:16-17).
- Through our Spirit filled conscience (Romans 9:1; cf. Romans 8:14, Galatians 5:18).
Questions to ask in order to discern if the Spirit is leading or speaking to you;
- Is it in line with Scripture and does it glorify Christ?
- What do your spiritual leaders think?
- Is your conscience clear?
- Has the Lord confirmed it through circumstances?
The Holy Spirit always leads us in the truth for the purpose of glorifying Christ.
- We are not alone when we suffer (1Corinthians 12:26)
We must learn to be open about our suffering and allow others to help us.
- We suffer with strength and hope (2 Corinthians 4:7-10)
1 Corinthians 4:11-13, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
When we submit to our suffering and rely upon the Lord we will find strength.
- God comforts us when we suffer (2 Corinthians 1:3-7)
God will give you supernatural comfort in your most painful times if you rely on Him.
Cometimes our care, concern and presence is more comforting than our words.
- God answers our prayers to comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:11).
The best thing you can do for someone who is suffering is to pray for them.
- Romans 15:30, Philippians 1:19
God is able to comfort those who suffer and use us to also comfort them in their pain.
- God is gracious to sinners, yet hates their sin (exodus 34:6-7; John 1:14, 17).
- Jesus was a friend of sinners (Luke 5:27-32; Matthew 11:19).
Do not give into the lie that love is conditional.
Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 13:4-6,
Repentance is a gift from God - it cannot be coerced.
Acts 11:18, Proverbs 15:1-2, Romans 2:4, Romans 10:1,
Do not allow sinners to waste your time or take advantage of you.
Matthew 7:6, Mathew 10:16
God is able to use our love for sinners and hatred for their sin to save His people.
